UPCOMING EVENTS

ONU Annual Lunch and Rugby Season Launch

For the first time the ONU will host its Annual event in conjunction with the Rugby Season Launch at Dockside on Friday, 27 July 2012.  All Old Boys are encouraged to attend this event and by doing so support our current boys in their endeavours.

The Master of Ceremonies for the day will be former Newington College, Australian Schoolboys, Australian Under 21s and NSW Waratahs fullback (and Current Sports Master) – James Godfrey (ON ’93).

A fantastic program has been arranged which will delight and entertain everyone present. We are expecting more than 20 past and present Wallabies to attend the lunch and the highlights of the day will include:

Presentation of Competition Jerseys to the members of the First, Second and Third XV’s.

We are pleased that James will be leading a Panel discussion featuring a host of current and former Australian rugby stars including:

Berrick Barnes

Berrick is the current NSW Waratahs and Australian Wallabies fly half. Educated at Queensland GPS school Ipswich Grammar, Berrick had a stellar junior career in rugby league, playing for the Junior Kangaroos in 2004, culminating with the Brisbane Broncos First Grade rugby league team at age 18 in 2005. Berrick made his super rugby debut in 2006 with the QLD Reds and captained that side in 2009. He made his test debut during the 2007 World Cup at age 21 and has been a member of the Wallabies squad ever since. Berrick has been a member of the NSW Waratahs since 2010 and, with 40 tests and 80 super rugby games to his credit, he is one of an exciting young generation of Australian rugby players.

Scott Bowen (ON ’90)

Scott is one of Newington’s favourite sons, and is a former NSW Waratahs and Australian Wallabies fly half. His rugby playing career includes the Newington First XV, Australian Schoolboys, Australian Under 21s, 49 games for the NSW Waratahs and 9 tests for the Australian Wallabies. Since retiring as a player Scott has forged an impressive coaching career and is currently Assistant Coach at the NSW Waratahs.

Mark Bell

A product of the rugby nursery at St. Josephs College Hunters Hill, Mark is a former QLD Reds and Australian Wallabies hooker. Mark’s rugby career includes the Australian Schoolboys, QLD Reds and one test for the Wallabies in 1986. Since retiring as a player Mark has forged an impressive coaching career, including Assistant Coach roles with Australian Under 19s and the QLD Reds.
